In Western Australian driving hours, there are “Optional Rules” for both solo and two-up driving hours.

Each rule set table has the statement “All the above and one of the below options”.

For Solo Drivers:

• At least two periods of 24 continuous hours of non-work time in any 14-day period; OR
• At least 4 periods of 24 continuous hours non-work time in any 28-day period – provided the hours do not exceed 144 hours in any 14-day period within the 28.

For Two-Up Drivers:

• At least one period of 7 hours of continuous non-work time in any 48-hour period (cannot be spent in a moving vehicle, may be stationary or spent elsewhere); OR
• At least 48 hours non-work time in any 7-day period, with at least 24 hours of the 48 hours being continuous and the balance taken in minimum 7-hour periods (cannot be spent in a moving vehicle, may be stationary or spent elsewhere).

As compliance with only one rule is mandatory, LogChecker will assess compliance with both rules and respond as follows:

• Non-compliance with both rules – Breach (Yellow icon)
• Compliance with one rule and non-compliance with the other rule – Warning (Blue icon) – Not a Breach
• Compliance with both rules – no icons – Not a Breach 

It is important to recognise this type of warning only applies for WA Rules.
